Ghani calls for joint war on terrorism, extremism

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday stressed the need for joint efforts to deal with contemporary challenges in the war on terrorism and extremism.

During a meeting with Dutch foreign and defence ministers, the president said the changing scenario posed new threats that required greater cooperation among states.

A statement from the Presidential Palace said the two sides agreed that the scourge of terrorism had spawned a wave of violence across the worldinfo-icon.

“We have been engaged in fashioning a joint strategy with other Islamic countries for tackling the emerging threats,” the statement quoted the president as saying.

Ghani sought continued Dutch support for Afghanistaninfo-icon in harnessing its enormous water resources and executing other development projects.

Foreign Minister Bert Koenders assured his country would continue extending all possible support to Afghanistan. He said: “We will see how best we can Afghanistan exploit its water resources.”
