President Ahmadzai issued the call during a meeting with UN’s deputy special representative to Afghanistan Nicholas Haysom and humanitarian coordinator Mark Boden at the Presidential Palace on Thursday evening, a statement from the palace said.
The meeting discussed continuation and expansion of the United Nations Assistance Mission (UNAMA)’s assistance to Afghanistan and its in-time delivery.
The statement said Haysom and Boden reassured continued UN’s assistance to the Afghan government.
Ahmadzai briefed the two officials on his government’s preparations to improve the living condition of displaced persons and those deserving assistance.
“We want to dispatch essential assistance to Afghans displaced by the conflict ahead of winter,” Ahmadzai stressed.
He urged the UN to be fast in delivering aid to the Afghan departments concerned in close coordination with the Afghan government.
The UN officials said they would assess problems being faced by displaced people and would assist them before the arrival of winter.
The statement said Ahmadzai urged UN’s cooperation in establishing a well-equipped clinic and a literacy centre in the Pul-i-Charkhi jail for prisoners.
During a surprise visit to the jail on the eastern outskirts of Kabul, Ahmadzai listened to inmates about their problems and asked the Attorney General’s Office to reinvestigate cases of inmates and present him a report in this regard until Monday.
