Ghazni’s handicapped want separate schools

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): The disabled people in southern Ghazni province on Sunday demanded the government provide them with separate educational institutions and introduce special courses for them.

Taking part in a cleanliness drive along with sanitation workers in Ghazni City, the provincial capital, the handicapped said they direly needed separate educational institutions.

Farida, both her legs paralysed, said: “We took part in the cleanliness campaign to convey the message we have the ability to work.” The government, she added, should introduce special courses for them.

Qari Lal Muhammad, who has lost his eyesight, wished to get education to serve his country. “It is our motherland and we are proud of keeping it clean,” he remarked.

Abdul Karim Noorzai, a senior official, said the province had around 6,000 special people and the government had been paying them cash aid every month.

A Swedish NGO, he said, had introduced some courses for the special persons in the province but much more was needed to be done.
