GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Suspected militants have abducted the Hajj and Religious Affairs director for southern Ghazni province along with two colleagues, the governor’s spokesman said on Wednesday.
Shafiq Nang told Pajhwok Afghan News that rebels pulled Haji Fazal Ahmad out of his car on the Ghazni-Kabul Highway and left for unidentified location late on Tuesday.
The incident took place in Haft Asyab locality of Syedabad district in central Maidan Wardak province, the official said.
Nang said that guard and driver of the director had also been kidnapped by militants.
But Noor Rehman, an eyewitness, said that the Hajj and Religious Affairs director was kidnapped on Wednesday morning when he was on his way to Ghazni from Kabul.
He believed the kidnappers were militants who took away with them the director, his driver and guard. Police have started investigation to locate the abducted men.
Attaullah Khogyani, the Maidan Wardak governor’s spokesman, said that Ghazni officials had contacted them in connection with the incident but he had no details right now. He said police were investigating the case.
There has been no word from the Taliban about the incident.
