FIROZKOH (Pajhwok): Provincial police chief for western Ghor province has been fired in the wake of series of protest against him last month, an official said Wednesday.

Police spokesman Abdul Hai Khatibi told Pajhwok Afghan News that Brig. Gen. Fahim Qaim, police chief for Ghor province, was fired under presidential decree put forward by the ministry of interior.

Khatibi however, did not comment on the removal of his boss. Hundreds of Ghor residents staged protests last month against irregularities among local governance and asked the president to remove governor and police chief.

However, Governor Sayyed Anwar Rahmati and Qaim had previously said that everything was moving toward positive direction under their command.

But a civil society activist Mohammad Nazir Noorani said lack of coordination among the two officials led to their failure. He suggested the governor should also be fired.

Noorani added that professional individuals should be deployed to Ghor province to resolve people’s problems.
