JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A teenager girl fled home and surrendered to army personnel after Taliban insurgents forced her to join them in eastern Nuristan province, an official said on Saturday.

Col. Noman Hatafi, a spokesman for the 201st Selab Military Corps in the east, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban had long been visiting home of the 18-year-old, Lal Mina, to convince her family to let their daughter join them.

A group of rebels led by Commander Mullah Islamuddin visited her house on Friday night, seeking her handover from her father.

But Mina successfully escaped at midnight when all the rebels were asleep at her home and she sought refuge from ANA officials.

Hatafi said the girl had been sent to Laghman province after her story was discussed with elders and the district chief of Nurgram, her native town.

ANA soldiers had reached Lal Mina’s home to protect her family members from possible reprisal from insurgents.

Governor Hafiz Abdul Qayum also confirmed the incident and said the officials concerned were investigating the issue.
