KABUL (HPC) chief on Saturday said the nation would not have lost key leaders if the government had paid serious attention to thwarting assassination plots over the past 13 years.

Speaking on the third assassination anniversary of his father, Salahuddin Rabbani warned at a gathering of jihadi leaders that serial killings would continue if such cases were not investigated and perpetrators not brought to justice.

Burhanuddin Rabbani was assassinated at his residence in Wazir Akbar Khan diplomatic district along with three members of the peace panel by a suicide bomber posing as a Taliban emissary. He remained president from 1992 to 1996.

Salahuddin Rabbani regretted the government had been unable to investigate the killing of Afghan figures and the enemies continued to hatch conspiracies against the nation.

About the election process, Rabbani said any kind of disrespect to people’s votes would spell negative consequences and the masses would not repose confidence in a government based on fraud.
