KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Security forces arrested a 5-member group of insurgents who were planning to launch an organised attack on a military base in northern Kunduz province, police said on Thursday.
The group was busted last night in the limits of Kunduz City, the provincial capital, by special police following intelligence reports.
Kunduz police chief Ghulam Mustafa Muhseni told Pajhwok Afghan News the group led by Qari Khaluddin was linked to a high-profile Al Qaeda affiliate Qari Salim group.
He said the group wanted to launch an attack on a military base in Kunduz City. However, he did not identify the military base.
Muhseni said Qari Khaluddin had recently trained in Pakistan. Some weapons and ammunitions were recovered from the detainees.
Earlier this week, security officials claimed they had prevented an organised group attack in Kunduz City and seized an explosives-laden pick-up vehicle, detaining a suspect.
