LASHKARGAH/GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Officials in southern Helmand on Sunday claimed arresting a group of targeted killers who were involved in killing individuals for 50,000 rupees.

Two targeted killers and as many their collaborators had been detained during the past week and brought before media in the police headquarters in Lashkargah, the provincial capital.

Sharifullah, the targeted killer, was said to be involved in the killing of a policeman in Lashkargah last week, Maj. Gen. Nabi Jan Malakhel, police chief, told journalists.

The targeted killers, he said had been working under Maulvi Wafa who entrusted them the task of target killing of leading officials and individuals. The killers in reward were given 500,000 by their mentor, Wafa.

The police chief said that the detained men had confessed to committing the crimes and they were also being grilled by the police to divulge more information from them.

Qudratullah, the targeted killer, who introduced himself of hailing from Kandahar province, said that Wafa tasked him to kill some officials in Helmand. “Wafa promised us to give us 50,000 rupees after killing each official,” he recalled.

He acknowledged he was involved in the killing of a policeman and he got 3,000 rupees from Maulvi Wafa.

Elsewhere in southern Ghazni, the spokesman of the 203rd Thunder Military Corps said that five militants were killed in security forces operation in Kadikhel locality of Andar district while the offensive was underway in a number of areas of the province.

Nazifullah Sultani said that military operations to purge Andar, Khogyani, Maqur, Dehyak and Gilan districts of insurgents had been underway.
