HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Losing provincial council (PC) candidates and their supporters on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration in western Herat province, blocking a key road.
The protestors accused the provincial Independent Election Commission (IEC) of taking bribes and committing other irregularities during the April elections.
The angry protestors blocked the main road in Herat City for four hours. They demanded investigation into alleged electoral fraud.
The losing candidates said they had been declared winners in the initial results, but removed from the final list.
Noor Mohammad Zarifi, one of the candidates, told the demonstrators that the seats they won had been sold out against money, with each seat costing $70,000.
