Hundreds attend anti-US/NATO rally in Kabul

KABUL.

The protestors, including women, marched from the Cinema Pamir locality to the Maiwand Square in Kabul City.

They called the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) with the US and the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) with NATO as shackling the nation into chains of slavery.

The protestors claimed permanent US military bases in Afghanistan war.

The protest was organised by the National Solidarity Party. A member of the party, Hafizullah Rasikh told Pajhwok Afghan News the demonstration was aimed at condemning the presence of US/NATO forces in Afghanistan under the BSA and SOFA.

“The new government is not based on people’s votes but a deal brokered by (US president) Obama and (secretary of state) John Kerry,” he added.

Rasikh said the new government was comprised of people who had failed to bring peace, stability and economic development to the country over the past more than a decade.

Behnaz, a female participant of the rally, said the national unity government was puppet in US hands and had no legal basis to represent the Afghans.

Condemning the BSA and SOFA, she said: “The agreements are equally shameful as other accords signed with the US and NATO before.”

She said they would not let the US occupy Afghanistan and warned continued protests against the US and its allies.

The BSA and SOFA were signed a day after Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai took office as president of the country.

President Ghani has called the BSA an important document that could ensure stability, prosperity and defence against foreign threats.

The protestors also set afire the flag of Islamic State and expressed solidarity with the people of Kobani, a besieged town in Syria.

The IS militants now control half of the town near the border with Turkey, a NATO ally.
