Iranian police warned over abusing Afghans

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Iranian police chief has warned security personnel of legal action if they humiliate Afghan refugees living in that country.

Internet users recently circulated a video showing an Iranian police officer insulting a group of Afghans. A man, off camera, insults the group with grueling physical exercises in a parking lot.

Speaking Persian, the official calls the Afghan cows. “Am I a good person? Do you like me?” he asks a young man. “Yes, I like you”, the young man replies, visibly under duress.

An Iranian news agency quoted senior police officer Saeed Muntazir Al Mahdi as warning policemen against abusing the Afghan migrants.

“After the video was released, the police commander ordered an investigation into the incident and arrest of the perpetrators,” Tasnim quoted him as saying. 

The video started circulating on Facebook a few days ago, but it is impossible to say when or where it was filmed. It is believed the video was made in Iran.

Police injustice to the Afghan refugees, he warned, was unacceptable because the force was expected to serve and facilitate the masses.

Mahdi said: “Let me acknowledge Afghans are a respectable and hardworking nation. We have religious, cultural and historical bonds and will ensure protection of their rights.”
