KABUL has been killed in a US airstrike in northern Takhar province, an official said on Friday.
Ministry of Interior (MoI) spokesman Siddique Siddiqui told Pajhwok Afghan News that Mullah Shamsuddin was killed by American forces in Ishkamish district.
Shamsuddin, also known as Qari Zubair, was Jundullah network’s leader in Afghanistan, according to Siddiqui, who blamed the man for killing then Kunduz police chief, Abdur Rahman Syedkheli.
“Shamsuddin and the terrorist group he led have been involved in organising attacks on Afghan government officials and influential figures,” the MoI spokesman said.
He believed the rebel commander’s elimination in yesterday’s airstrike was a huge blow to Jandullah and its allies in the war-torn country.
He alleged the network was based in Pakistan’s tribal region of Waziristan, where its members were training before being sent to Afghanistan for conducting attacks.
Jandullah, an Uzbekistan-based network led by Tahir Yuldash, is responsible for staying attacks in Afghanistan over the past few years. Some of its members have been killed and captured in the north.
