Kidnapped Kunduz businessman rescued

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Three individuals have been arrested on charges of involvement in the kidnapping of a local businessman in northern Kunduz province, an official said on Friday.

Police spokesman Syed Sarwar Hussaini told Pajhwok Afghan News unidentified gunmen had kidnapped Mohammad Rahim from Imam Sahib district.

Hussain said the alleged kidnappers, one hailing from the district and two from the provincial capital, were detained from a house in Nawabad area on the outskirts of Kunduz City.

Police rescued the local businessman with his hands chained. Following five days of captivity, the trader said the kidnappers had demanded 200,000 afs in ransom.

On his way home, the man said, he was kidnapped a week ago. Blindfolded by the unidentified gunmen, he was taken to an unknown destination. He added the kidnappers kept him chained.
