PUL-I-KHUMRI/FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): A public representative from northern Baghlan province escaped unhurt but one of his guards was wounded in an armed attack, an official said on Wednesday.

Wolesi Jirga highway while returning home, police spokesman Javed Basharat told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The attackers fled the scene before the arrival of police in the area, Basharat said, adding that the parliamentarian had not informed them about his travel.

Wafa said the overnight attack, which happened in Kilgi area at 10pm, triggered a 20-minute fire exchange between his bodyguards and the assailants. He blamed the Taliban, saying his guard was in stable condition.

In the remote northeastern province of Badakhshan, Director of Information and Culture Obaidullah Niazi survived a similar assault. He said the assailants in a car fired at him in Faizabad before escaping.

Ahmad Naveed Frotan, the governor’s spokesman, said security personnel had launched a hunt for the attackers but no one had been arrested so far.
