MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Two people, including a district literacy department official, were killed and three border policemen were wounded during two separate gun attacks in northwestern Faryab province on Thursday.

The border and public order police were heading to Maimana, the provincial capital, in a joint convoy when ambushed by armed rebels, border police official Col. Mohammad Akram told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the attack left three border policemen injured and killed a civilian travelling in a car on the same route.

Mohammad Ibrahim, the literacy department director for the Almar district had been killed by unknown assailants and his body was found near a school in the Akhund Baba village on Thursday, the district chief said.

Mohammad Saleh Saleh said the motive behind the murder was unclear, but an investigation had been opened.
