TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): A young man shot dead six members of his family, including his father, a brother and wives of his two brothers before got himself killed in a police encounter in central Uruzgan province on early Wednesday morning, sources said.
The incident took place at around 7am in the Abarda area of Tirinkot, the provincial capital, crime branch police chief at the provincial police headquarters, Gulab Khan, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the young man opened fire at his family members after a verbal clash. The dead included his father, a brother and three female relatives.
He said it remained unclear if the slain women were the killer’s sisters and if they included the mother. The killer was later killed during an exchange of fire with police, Khan said.
A tribal elder in the area, Malak Tawos, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the killer, Rahimullah, was 25 years old, who had been in a dispute with his father and brothers over distribution of family land.
Rahimullah had been demanding his share in the land from his father, who was against the distribution of land among his sons.
The elder said the dead included the father, a brother, a nephew and two spouses of Rahimullah’s brothers. Rahimullah had previously committed a murder.
