MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Police on Wednesday arrested a militant wearing a suicide vest in northern Balkh province, an official said.
Balkh acting police chief Brig. Gen. Abdul Raziq Qaderi told Pajhwok Afghan News the would-be suicide attacker was detained this morning in the Sholgar district.
He claimed the attacker wanted to target the district police chief, Juma Khan, but he was arrested based on an intelligence report.
An explosives-filled jacket was recovered from the detainee currently being interrogated, the police chief said.
He identified the detainee as Dad Mohammad, who recently returned from Iran where he had gone to find a job.
After his return, he was convinced by Taliban militants to carry out a suicide attack, Qaderi said. There has been no word from the Taliban about the arrest of the suicide attacker.
