Mortar explosion kills father, son in Herat

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A father and his son were killed when a mortar shell exploded in their shop in western Herat province on Wednesday, an official said.

The incident took place in the bazaar of Shindand district at around 12pm, police spokesman Abdul Rauf Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

A shopkeeper was hammering the unexploded mortar shell when it went off, killing him and his son.

Separately, a 22-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself due to family dispute in the Rabat Sangi district.

Rauf said police had detained the woman’s husband and had started an investigation.
