MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): Municipality workers of Maidan Shahar in central Maidan Wardak province on Tuesday claimed they had not been paid their stipend for the last five months.

They warned if the government did not pay attention to address their legitimate issue then they would go on strike.

Abdul Qadeer, an employee of the municipality, told Pajhwok Afghan News they had not been paid because of shortage of municipality budget. He said other departments were being paid regularly.

Asad, another employee, said this was their fifth month working without salary creating problem for their daily lives.

“Every day we borrow our food items from shopkeepers. We have waited for too long but to no avail,” he added.

Engineer Mahmood Amiri, Maidan Wardak mayor, acknowledged the employees did not receive their salaries. He added they had already sent this year’s budget to centre and were awaiting approval.
