LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): A district police chief and his guards escaped unhurt on Friday when a roadside bomb tore through their vehicle in southern Helmand province, an official said.

The Nad Ali district police chief, Lt. Marjan Haqmal, was travelling in Thrikh Nawar, a highly insecure area between Nad Ali and Marja district before noon when the blast occurred, said Helmand police spokesman Col. Farid Obaid.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News Haqmal had gone to the area to inspect police posts when came under attack. Their vehicle  was comprehensive damaged, but no one got hurt, Obaid said.

Akhtar Mohammad, a member of the Marja community council, also confirmed the police suffered no casualties in the bomb attack.

No Taliban spokesman was immediately available for comment.
