CHARIKAR airstrike ‘mistakenly’ hit Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel during an ongoing operation against militants in central Parwan province, killing at least three of them, an official said on Saturday.

The incident occurred late on Friday in the Ghorband valley of the Siahgard district, Parwan police chief Brig. Gen. Mohammad Zaman Mamozai told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the NATO jets mistakenly bombed ALP personnel during the ongoing operation in the district. Six Taliban militants had been killed and three civilians wounded so far during the offensive, he added.

Asked about the strike, the NATO-led force confirmed the incident, saying it was under investigation. “Once we gather the facts of exactly what happened and the investigation is complete, we can provide more details.”

Mohammad Saeed Siddiqui, the district’s administrative chief, said the ALP deaths in the NATO airstrike were not intentional. ISAF and Afghan forces were engaged in a joint operation against militants in the area when the incident occurred, he explained.
