Negligence in police HQ attack being probed: Ghani

KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday said the insurgent attack on the police headquarters in central Logar province was being investigated and officials, who had committed negligence in averting the attack, would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The president was talking to families of the attack’s victims, who called on him at his office in Kabul, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.

At the meeting, acting Logar governor Niaz Mohammad Amiri and police chief presented their reports about the Feb 17 attack that left 23 policemen and an employee of the education department dead and nine others wounded.

One week after the attack, officials arrested 14 policemen for quizzing in connection with the assault.

Col. Fazal Karim, who spoke on behalf of families of the victims, thanked the president for showing his solidarity with the bereaved families. 

The president extended his heartfelt condolences to the families and praised their patience and the sacrifices their relatives offered in the line of duty.

He said: “Being the commander in chief of the armed forces, it is my responsibility to protect everyone in uniform and all citizens.” The president reiterated his resolve to investigate the attack and officials for possible negligence.
