JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A 20 megawatt power supply substation, electrifying homes of 20,000 families and some factories, was put into service in this capital city of eastern Nangarhar province on Monday.
Governor Attaullah Ludin, Afghanistan Brishna Sherkat chief Abdul Raziq Samadi and officials from the provincial Electricity Department attended the inauguration ceremony in Ghuchko area of Jalalabad city.
Nangarhar Electricity Director Mohib Rahman Momand told Pajhwok Afghan News the substation would supply power to 20,000 families and factories and would help reduce electrical outages.
Ludin praised the national power utility for installing the new facility and hoped it would resolve electricity related problems of residents.
Electricity is supplied to Jalalabad from Daronta and Naghlu hydropower plants, but the supply is insufficient to meet needs of the growing population.
