AIBAK (Pajhwok): More than a dozen people, including a newly-married couple, have been killed and nine others injured during separate accidents in northern Samangan province, officials said on Saturday.

The couple was among five people killed when their vehicle crashed into a truck in Dilkhaki area on the Smangan-Mazar-i-Sharif highway on Saturday morning, traffic official Abdul Razaq told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The victims included two women. They were returning home from the bride’s village after the wedding party, the official said.

Another six people were killed during a separate accident that took place in Dara-i-Suaf Bala district on Saturday, an official said.

The accident occurred at around 8:00am when a corolla car collided head-on with a truck, Ahmad Ali Hussiani, the district’s administrative chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the victims were coal miners and were on their way to the district centre from the Dihnator coal mine. The dead, including the driver, belonged to central Daikundi province, he added.

Separately, eight people sustained injuries when a car veered off the road in Big Mohammad Qadokh area of Hazrat Sultan district on Friday afternoon.

Razaq confirmed the incident and said such accidents often resulted from carelessness.

In the same district, a driver was killed when his Hino model truck crashed into an oil tanker in Yaka Toot area on Friday night.

The traffic department director said around 650 people have been killed or wounded in traffic accidents this solar year.
