PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Women Affairs (MoWA) on Saturday vehemently condemned killing of a newly-wed woman who was killed by her husband in northern Baghlan province.

Baghlan police Chief Javed Basharat told Pajhwok Afghan News that a 17 years old woman was choked by her husband who managed to flee after committing the crime on Friday.

He linked the incident to family disputes and said two people had been arrested for interrogation.

Khadija Yaqin, director women department, condemned the incident and said the woman was forced to marry the man.

According to a statement from the ministry, the brutal incident occurred just three days after the marriage of the couple. “The husband of the woman has fled with jewelries of his wife after murdering her,” the statement added.

According to the women affairs department, 80 cases of violence against women have been recorded in Baghlan, including 12 murder cases.
