KABUL (Pajhwok): A leading political figure who struggled for Pashtuns’ rights, Malik Amanullah Khan Kasi, has died at the Wazir Akbar Khan Hospital in Kabul. He was 76.
Kasi breathed his last on Thursday evening. He had been invited by the Ministry of Border and Tribal Affairs to attend the Baloch-Pashtun Unity Day function in Kabul.
Syed Shah Saqim, writer and journalist, told Pajhwok Afghan News on Friday Kasi was the son of Abdul Razzaq. Kasi, he said, wanted to fly back to Quetta two days ago, but he could not due to high sugar and blood pressure levels.
“In his will, Kasi said he should be buried in the occupied Afghanistan (Balochistan), with an Afghan flag hoisted on his grave,” Saqim said. He was an active supporter of the political philosophy of Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan and Samad Khan Achakzai.
A central leader of the Awami National Party, he will be buried near Quetta later in the day. Kasi was also an associate of Wali Khan, and Afzal Khan Lala.
He was jailed for several years in cases relating to the struggle for democracy, constitutional rule, rights of Pakhtuns and the Hyderabad conspiracy case.
