HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The body of Pajhwok photojournalist Syed Maula Daad Yaqubi was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in western Herat province on Monday.

Maula Daad had been in a New Delhi hospital for nearly a month and lost his battle for life to a severe illness two days ago.

His funeral was attended by senior government officials, colleagues, friends, relatives and area residents.

Syed Fazlullah Wahidi, the acting Herat governor, read out a condolence message from President Ashraf Ghani, who promised the creation of a fund to help journalists in time of special need and treatment in his message.

Whahidi asked media outlets owners to pay attention to their employees’ needs and support them when in trouble.

Arya Raufian, the Information and Culture Director, said they wanted to see journalists facing no financial problems for their medical treatment.

Syed Amir Karbalayee, father of Maula Daad, who recently lost his eyesight and is paralyzed, thanked the president, journalists and others who financially helped his late son.
