KABUL on Friday reiterated its commitment to provide the Nishtar Kidney Centre (NKC) in Jalalabad, the capital city of eastern Nangarhar province, with the needed medical equipments.

Following media reports, Akhtar Munir, press counselor at the Pakistani Embassy in Kabul, said Pakistan was committed to equip the centre with medical facility.

In a statement, he said that the embassy has clarified that the Afghan side has been requested to place doctors and staff in Nishtar Kidney Centre before installation of sophisticated and medical equipment there.

Two days back, Afghanistan Director Dr. Najibullah Kamawal presented his department’s annual report to the Governor’s House in Nangarhar. He said construction work on the kidney hospital had finished and Pakistan had promised buying equipment worth six million Pakistani rupees for the hospital, something yet to be done.

Earlier, Pakistan had trained a batch of Afghan doctors for posting at the Kidney Centre but subsequently it was reported that they were not available for placement at the Centre, which resulted in delay in installation of equipment.

The statement said that last month Afghan Ministry of Public Health has requested “us to train yet another batch of doctors and paramedical staff in Pakistan so that they can be posted to Nishtar Kidney Centre after training. As soon as this process is over and there are some doctors and staff available at the centre, Islamabad will install the equipment.”

The statement said Islamabad was committed to complete all Pakistani funded projects. “Pakistan is carrying out projects worth US$ 500 million in various sectors, including health, education and infrastructure in different parts of Afghanistan.
