GARDEZ (Pajhwok): A well-attended poetry session ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr was arranged in southeastern Paktia province. Seasoned poets underlined hard work to replace gun with pen.
The session titled “pen for kids instead of guns” was arranged in Gardez, the provincial capital. It was attended by leading poets, writers, intellectuals and poetry lovers.
Sardar Wali Tirahwal, chief of Awukhtoon Cultural Organisation, told Pajhwok Afghan News the poetic congregation was arranged to welcome Eid-ul-Fitr. But the real purpose behind the session was to encourage children to study.
Some families purchased toy guns for their kids on Eid but the trend left a negative impact on children’s mind, Tirahwal explained.
Mohammad Shifa Mushafiq, the director of information and culture, said holding a poetic session of this kind would have a positive impact on the war-weary Afghans.
Paktia had rich culture and traditions and most of its youth focused on writing and poetry, which would further enrich the Pashto literature in coming years, he added.
