KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): A group suicide and gun attack on the police academy in southeastern Khost province came to an end with the killing of all three militants after an intense gun-battle on Wednesday, the deputy governor said.
Abdul Wahid Pathan told Pajhwok Afghan News the three bombers stormed the police building from the back side.
One of them crashed his explosive-laden car into the academy’s wall and the two others tried to force their way inside but faced with stiff resistances from the police personnel, eventually blowing themselves up. Pathan said only the building was slightly damaged and the police were unhurt.
Public Health Director Dr. Hidyatullah Hamidi said three wounded persons had been admitted to the civil hospital but he did not say they were civilians or security personnel.
Muhammad Zaman, an eyewitness, said he heard three powerful blasts but he did not see any dead or wounded person at the scene.
As usual, the Taliban claimed credit for the attack, with the group’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid saying a number of fighters took part in the assault, inflicting heavy casualties on security forces.
