FAIZABAD (PAJHWOK): One policeman and 10 militants were killed and eight insurgents wounded in cleanup operation during the past four days in the Taghab district of northeastern Badakhshan province, official said Saturday.
Lal Muhammad Ahmadzai, police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News seven militants had been arrested during the offensive. A large number of weapons of different brands recovered from the rebels, he added.
Muhammad Sharif, a resident of the district, said Taliban went into hiding toward the mountainous areas to dodge the operation.
“Taliban were forcing people to provide them with food and shelter. Now people of my area had a sigh of relief after the anti-militants offensive,” he added.
But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said five policemen had been killed and a number of others wounded in clashes with militants.
