KABUL militants opened fire at police in the main bazaar of the Shah Joy district of southern Zabul province, killing one policeman and a child, an official said on Sunday.
Another policeman and a child were injured in the attack that took place on Saturday, the first day of religious festival Eidul Adha, the district chief, Abdul Khaliq Azizi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the children were standing nearby when the police came under fire from the armed insurgents.
The injured policeman and the child had been taken to hospital and their condition was stated to be stable, the official said.
The Taliban have said nothing about the gun attack.
