KABUL (Pajhwok): Political and tribal elders on Tuesday demanded thorough investigation and severe punishment for the perpetrators of tragic suicide bombing in southeastern Paktika province that left dozens persons dead scores other wounded.

A suicide bomber detonated his explosives as he mingled with the large crowd watching a volleyball match between the Yahyakhel and Yusufkhel districts as part of an inter-district volleyball tournament in Yahyakhel.

At least 61 people were killed and more than 70 wounded in the powerful blast. Although Taliban) claimed the deadly Sunday’s suicide bombing in southeastern Paktika province had been carried out by the dreaded Haqqani Network.

Chief of National Front (NF), Sayyed Ahmad Gilani and members of the lower house, members of eastern provinces council, former secretary of Independent Election Commission (IEC) Zia-ul-Haq Amarkhil and others condemned the blast in strongest words and demanded investigation into the attack.

They visited Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan hospital to inquire about the health of those wounded in the blast.

Gilani said the incumbent government had been striving to bring peace and stability to the country but the enemy was out to scuttle all peace efforts.

Former IEC secretary said the enemy of Afghanistan did not want stability and peace in Afghanistan and the enemy of Afghans should be defeated.
