Prices of flour, ghee down, fuel up

KABUL (Pajhwok): The price of flour has dipped but that of fuel has jumped while other items remain steady during the outgoing week in the capital Kabul, market sources said on Thursday.

Abdul Saboor, a fuel tank owner in Wazirabad area, told Pajhwok Afghan News that one litre of petrol increased from 42 Afghanis to 44 Afghanis and the price of the same amount of diesel surged from 44afs to 46afs.

But one kilogram of liquefied gas was sold at the rate of 32afs and 40afs in different areas of the city.

Mohammad Sharif, a gas seller in Taimani area, sold one kilogram of gas for 40afs, the same price of last week.

But Sebghatullah, another gas seller in Zaman Khan area, said that he sells one kilogram of gas for 32afs.

Farid Sherzai, petroleum control director, said that diesel and petrol should not be sold above 40afs in Kabul tanks.

He said that anyone violates the law should be taken to task and the ministry of industry and commerce should ban the sellers charging extra money.

However, the price of flour and oil edged down.

Fazal Rahman, the head of the Food Traders Union, said that 50kg of Pakistani flour was accounted for 1,240afs compared to last week’s price of 1,250afs and the price of 16 litres of Shayesta ghee decreased from 1,000afs to 980afs.

But 50kg of sugar was sold 1,540afs, 24kg of rice 1,550afs, a kilogram of black African tea 210afs and the same amount of green tea 180afs.

But a retailer in the Dahan-i-Bagh area of Kabul, Khan Ali, sold a 49-kg bag of flour for 1,360afs, a 50-kg sack of sugar for 1,750afs and a 24-kg bag of rice for 1,900afs.

Mohammad Fawad, a jeweler in Timor Shahi area, said the price of one gram of Russian gold was 1,650 and the same quantity of the Arabian variety 2,050afs.

Moneychanger Ahmad Shah said the buying rate of one US dollar was 57.40afs, while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 564afs. Last week’s exchange value of the dollar stood at 57.30afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 565afs.
