Projects worth 32m afs executed in Bamyan

BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): More than 3,000 families would benefit from several development projects that were recently inaugurated in central Bamyan province, an official said on Monday.

The projects include the construction of a 10-kilometre levee, small and big bridges and a water reservoir in Koh Mard district.

Syed Abdul Hamid Mubarez, the United Nations Habitat for Humanity International (HfHI) director in Bamyan, said the projects were monitored by 20 local councils and would help benefit more than 3,000 families.

He Pajhwok Afghan News the projects implemented under the National Solidarity Programme (NSP) cost 32 million afghanis, with residents contributing a portion of the expenses.

The HfHI has been active in Bamyan for the last 17 years, also supporting NSP projects’ implementation.

Mubarez said some other projects had also been completed and work on more welfare schemes was underway as part of the second round of NSP programme in Koh Mard, Sighan and Yakawlang districts and in Bamyan City.

An influential individual from the district, Abdul Hakim, said most of the executed projects included river embankment to protect thousands of acres of farmland from being flooded.

Koh Mard district chief Hadi Sighani said another 30 projects, including bridges, river embankments and water reservoirs, would be also completed soon.
