KABUL (Pajhwok): Complaints about the provincial council elections held in early April would be addressed soon, the electoral watchdog said on Monday — a day after the presidential vote result was unveiled.

As many as 458 candidates, including 97 women, were declared successful in the preliminary results from the provincial polls, announced by the Independent Election Commission on May 20.

Final results were to be unveiled on June 17, but their announcement was delayed by the presidential election deadlock and the subsequent nationwide vote audit.

An Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News complaints about elections in all provinces, barring Nangarhar and Nuristan, had been investigated.

Objections about the polls in the two provinces would be disposed of today and the panel would take a decision soon, Nader Mohseni said, adding all complaints were being probed in a transparent manner.

, Following a deal between the candidates on a government of national unity, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Sunday announced the final result of the disputed presidential ballot.

At a brief news conference, IEC Chairman Ahmad Yousaf Nuristani declared former finance minister Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai as the winner. The announcement ends weeks of uncertainty about the future administration.
