KABUL, touching off a protest, a news report said on Sunday.
Run by the Basic Education for Awareness, Reforms and Empowerment, also called Basic Education for Afghan Refugees (BEFARe), the school’s closure has forced 350 refugee students, including a hundred girls, to stay at home.
A Pak-Afghan Teacher Association member told the Express Tribune the administration had decided to shift the refugees from Mattani and Jabba Jail camps to Garhi Chandan in February and hence the closure of the Mattani Camp middle school in Peshawar
“The teachers have been transferred to other refugee camp schools,” confirmed the association president, Nasrullah Khan. The administration has been asked to find alternative premises.
One teacher condemned the step as discriminatory, saying that the school had functioned for nearly 30 years and it was the only one in the area to be shut. He added the UNHCR had refused to relocate the school.
