KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Afghan refugees, who fled Waziristan tribal region due to an ongoing military operation, were on Sunday distributed non-food items in southeastern Khost province.
The returnees were distributed blankets, gas cylinders and other household items by the International Organization of Migration (IOM), an official said.
Abdul Qayyum, who works for IOM, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Afghan families returned to Afghanistan.
He said the returning families had been living in Waziristan without legal stay documents.
He said a number of such families remained deprived of relief supplies and they planned to gradually assist them.
Hashim, who returned with his family to the Thanai district, told Pajhwok Afghan News the aid would resolve some of their problems, but they needed more such assistance.
“International donor agencies should closely assess the situation of these families to help them accordingly,” he said.
The IMO official said thousands of refugee families from Waziristan had already been camped in Khost and the Afghan families had newly arrived.
He said the non-food items were distributed to 94 Afghan families, saying the IOM alone could not meet all needs of the families.
