MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The Information and Culture Director for northern Sari-i-Pul province on Wednesday alleged gunmen loyal to the deputy provincial council head tried to kidnap him.
Addressing a press conference at his residence in Mazar-i-Sharif, Balkh’s capital, Abdul Qadus Fahim said gunmen of Zabihullah Kakar, the deputy provincial council chief, attempted to kidnap him in the city’s Azizabad area on Tuesday afternoon around 4pm, but they failed to do so.
“Our house door was knocked and as I came out, a man was standing in front of our gate. A few metres away gunmen were sitting a white car. They tried to force me into their car, saying Kakar wants to meet me.”
But he started shouting to inform local residents and the gunmen fled as residents and police arrived at the scene. Fahim said he had no idea what problem Kakar had with him. He said he had lodged a complaint with police about the incident.
But Kakar strongly rejected his claim, calling it a political plot against him. He said he was unaware of the alleged kidnapping bid and asked security organs to thoroughly investigate the allegation. Kakar said he believed no such incident had taken place and the allegation was a political plot.
Acting Balkh police chief Col. Abdul Razaq Qadri confirmed registering a report filed by Fahim and said the incident was being investigated.
He said Kakar phoned him and said he had two security guards, who would appear for investigation whenever called.
