KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday said Afghan security institutions lacked coordination, an issue his administration would try to address soon.
Speaking to Ministry of Defence officials in Kabul, the president spoke of long-term plans to boost coordination among security organs and enhance their capacity.
A statement from his office quoted the president as saying that he spent three hours daily dealing with security issues. He lashed out at the security personnel for lacking coordination.
“By the grace of Allah, your capacity has improved as a result of untiring efforts, but coordination among the security sectors is non-existent,” he told his interlocutors.
“At the level of the Afghan National Army, coordination is absent; the ANA has no coordination with the Ministry of Interior. And the same goes for the Ministries of Interior and Defence,” he added.
Addressing the ANA officials, the president directed the generals to evolve their annual operational plan into a comprehensive five-year strategy to improve the security environment.
As the security organs are unable to meet current needs, the new administration plans to set up a garrison in Kabul to oversee the overall situation, according to the president.
Ghani also underlined the need for a professional army, which could live on as a legacy of his government. “No major, no colonel can work in the absence of a hierarchy.”
He also ordered the removal of army officials with political affiliations or other influential figures, asking senior military commanders to trains their replacements. He also stressed the unity of command.
