TEHRAN (Pajhwok): Iran has welcomed the end of foreign forces combat mission in Afghanistan and assuming of security responsibilities by the Afghan security forces.
Marzieh Afkham, spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, said this in her meeting with the visiting Afghanistan delegation to Tehran. Officials of Ministry of Information and Culture, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a number of journalists are included in the delegation on a visit to Iran.
Afkham said the establishment of unity government clearly showed that Afghans were politically mature enough to stand united for the national cause.
“We’re happy that Afghans have taken over security responsibility to safeguard their own country,” she added. She said that she had held in-depth meetings and discussed issues of mutual interests and terror with Mohammad Hanif Atmar, Afghanistan’s national security advisor, during his visit to Iran.
She said a high-level delegation would soon visit Kabul and then Afghan president would be invited to come to Tehran.
