Dr. Ashraf Ghani and Dr. Abdullah Abdullah inked the long-awaited deal on forming a government national unity, ending several weeks of and uncertainty and paving the ground for the election result announcement.
Ahmad Javed Rauf, a member of Meshrano Jirga from western Herat province, a government of national unity offered many Afghans a ray of hope.
The senator hoped Afghanistan’s unity, economy and security — some of the complex problems being encountered by the masses — would become stronger with the installation of the new government.
His colleague, Anarkali Hunaryar, also believed the incoming administration would enforce nationwide security in the near future. She called peace one of people’s basic priorities.
Belonging to the Sikh minority, the legislator asked the unity government to preserve the gains made over the past 13 years and address the issues that still existed in Afghanistan.
Another senator from northern Takhar province, Mohammad Yunus, remarked: “I’m hopeful of the unity government will minimise Afghanistan’s problems. Let it take over.”
Senate Chairman Fazal Hadi Muslimyar praise the role of political leaders and jihadi figures in helping the presidential runners finalise the agreement. He expected Ghani and Abdullah to focus on strengthening security.
