JALALABAD/MAIDAN SHAHAR (Pajhwok): Work on a number of development projects of public welfare has been launched in eastern Nangarhar and central Maidan Wardak provinces, officials said Wednesday.

Nangarhar Governor Attaullah Ludin, addressing the inauguration ceremony, told participants the province more urgently needed such projects because patients from Kunar, Nuristan and Laghman also came there for treatment.

In central Maidan Wardak, construction work on building a spacious gymnasium worth 31 million afghanis was launched, the governor’s spokesman said.

Attaullah Khogyani said the facility would be built on 1,575 metres of land with the financial assistance of the Counter-Narcotics Ministry. The project will be completed in one year.

In addition to a car parking area, the gymnasium would offer facilities for 35 different games, where sports events would be held, he concluded.
