Some Paktika schools to have playgrounds

Aug 16, 2014 - 12:58

SHARAN (Pajhwok): Playground for 16 schools in southeastern Paktika province would be constructed at a cost of $350,000 in the current year, an official said on Saturday.

A programme called Stability in Key Areas (SIKA) would fund the project, Educationinfo-icon Director Kochi Zazai the told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The projects would be implemented at schools in the provincial capital Sharan and Yousafkhel district, he said, without giving a timescale.

Naqibullah, student of third class, said he was waiting impatiently for the construction of a playground in his school.

He hoped for prompt implementation of the project. The child was confident the project would not turn out to be a pipedream.

A tribal elder, Gulab Khan, is concerned about the quality of work. He said a number of schools constructed by the education department were of poor quality.

Paktika province has 698 schools, where 3,632 teachers impart education to students.
