GARDEZ (Pajhwok): The Taliban said on Tuesday they had hanged three individuals accused of theft robberies in the Gardez district of southeastern Paktia province.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the group’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the men were killed in front of a crowd in Nestikot area on Monday evening.
Local residents had complained against the robbers and thieves to the Taliban, who apprehended the accused after a trial. The men looted and kidnapped residents for ransom, Mujahid added.
Meanwhile, locals confirmed the incident, saying the victims were residents of the area. Said Wali, a resident, said the men had robbed people in winter and the main road was not safe because of robberies and kidnappings for ransom.
He claimed government officials arrested robbers but set them free later on. It is the second time in a week that Taliban have executed robbers and kidnappers. The militants hanged three people in Zurmat before the latest hangings.
