A Taliban spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, told Pajhwok Afghan News, the trio was executed in Gorji the locality of the Zurmat on Friday in line with a judgment of the movement’s religious scholars.
He accused the three men of being complicit in kidnappings. The action had been taken on the basis of complaints to the Taliban from the general public, Mujahid added.
A statement from the Taliban said the men had been seized last week in Paktia and were sentenced to death by their court. It gave no further details.
Although security forces have not yet commented on the incident, the provincial police chief’s secretary confirmed the executions.
Haji Rangin, a local tribal elder, said the victims’ bodies were still in the area and the Taliban had asked residents to let them stay hanging for three days.
