LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Residents of the Greshk district of restive southern Helmand province on Friday said the government should focus on strengthening security and eradicating terrorism instead of holding talks with anti-state elements.

Locals expressed the view at a gathering arranged to express solidarity with the families of those killed in the devastating suicide attack in southeastern Paktika five days back.

Muhammad Fahim Musazai, the Greshk district administrative chief, said that terrorists had recently intensified their attacks and did not want peace in Afghanistan.

He warned insecurity would intensify if the central government failed to work out an effective strategy. The money being spent on the peace process was a useless exercise and it should be used to buy advanced weapons, he suggested.

Haji Abdul Khaliq, a member of the Greshk social network, blamed Pakistan for the recent attack in Paktika. He said Afghans viewed Pakistan as their eternal enemy.
