QALAT (Pajhwok): Tribal elders and residents of Shajoy district of southern Zabul province claimed ended up in Taliban pockets to keep their insurgency flourish.

Security official and provincial council members confirmed following rampant corruption in the education department, salaries of some teachers were being received by rebels.

Brig. Gen Ghulam Sakhi Rogh Lewanai, police chief, confirmed salaries of teaching staff in Shajoy were getting by Taliban. He said officials of National Directorate Security (NDS) and the governor office had been informed about the issue.

Haji Atta Jan, head of provincial council (PC), during his visit to the district along with others PC members, said that majority of schools had been closed but salaries were still being dispatched to the teachers.

Education Director Rahimullah Lodin confirmed obstacles had been hampering education sector in the province and he demanded locals and tribal elders to extend their all out cooperation.

Musa Khan, an elder of the district, claimed corruption was rampant in education department and the teachers of some schools were being appointed by Taliban.

He said he had evidence that Taliban bought weapons and ammunition with the salaries of teachers they received.
