Terrorists can’t scuttle Afghan peace bid: UNSC

WASHINGTON (Pajhwok): The United Nations Security Council on Thursday condemned the Kabul.

In a statement, the 15-membered body condemned in the strongest terms the November 27 attack on a United Kingdom Embassy vehicle in Kabul, which resulted in a number of deaths and injuries to civilians and security personnel.

It also expressed deep sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims, and to the people and governments of Afghanistan and Britain.

Members of the Council reiterated their serious concern at the threats posed by the Taliban, Al-Qaida and other terrorist and extremist groups to the local population, security forces, international soldiers and assistance efforts.

The Security Council underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of the reprehensible acts of terrorism to justice, It urged all states, in accordance with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with Afghan authorities in this regard.

Reaffirming that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations is criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of its motivation, and should not be associated with any religion, nationality, civilization or ethnic group, the Security Council reiterated its determination to combat the scourge by all means.

The members reiterated that no terrorist act could reverse the path toward Afghan-led peace, democracy and stability in Afghanistan, which is supported by the people and the government of Afghanistan and by the international community.
